Upper Limb Service
Hobbs at Bristol is now offering a brand new individualised Upper Limb Service.
What is the Upper Limb Service?
The upper limb service is a 4-6 week course of intensive upper limb treatment, using a combination of conventional neuro physiotherapy, occupational therapy and Tyromotion™ robotic and computer assisted therapy.
What are the benefits of this service?
Evidence shows that repetition of movement and increased intensity of therapy gives better results in upper limb rehabilitation. Conventional rehabilitation often focusses on the lower limb and gait. We will focus solely on activity of the upper limb and trunk. Use of Tyromotion™ technology allows repetition of movement, with assistance, from the robotic devices that may otherwise be difficult to achieve with conventional therapy alone.
How long is the service?
Following an initial assessment, we will recommend either 2 hours, 3 hours or 4 hours of intense treatment per day, based on exercise tolerance, totaling 40-80 hours. The number of hours per week may change as the course progresses. We will create an individualised weekly programme that works for you.
Who are the therapists?
The Hobbs physiotherapists and occupational therapists leading the service have extensive experience in neurorehabilitation and are skilled in the management of a range of neurological conditions including stroke, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury. All therapists are skilled in management of the upper limb.
- Initial assessment will be approximately 1.5-2 hours.
- We will determine your suitability for the upper limb service and advise how many hours per week would be indicated.
- We will try to identify achievable goals with you at the first visit.
