Orthotics Specialist Care From An Experienced Orthotist
An orthosis is an external device used to modify the structural or functional characteristics of the neuromuscular system. Whilst this is the formal definition, more simply, orthoses are splints, insoles and special shoes which can be used to improve your movement or alignment. The person specialising in provision of orthoses is an orthotist who is a healthcare professional qualified and registered in a similar way to physiotherapists.

We are fortunate to have Mr Eric Askew as our orthotist who is a recognised expert in the field, Eric is experienced in working with other health professionals in designing and fitting orthoses to best compliment your treatment and rehabilitation.

In some situations a ready made orthosis may be appropriate, otherwise an orthosis may need to be designed and made for you.

Your orthotic assessment will take into consideration the required function of the orthosis as well as weight, ability to put an orthosis on, impact on clothing and other functions as well as appearance. Where possible choice will be offered and your involvement in designing the orthosis will be encouraged.

• Costs for initial assessment: £60 per appointment
• Short review and fittings: £30 per appointment

The cost of the orthosis may vary considerably however following initial assessment a detailed pricing will be provided.
